The launch of Osteoporosis Awareness Society of Kuala Lumpur (OASKL)

Osteoporosis Awareness Society Of Kuala Lumpur, a patient and public society to promote bone health awareness among Malaysian was launched on the 2nd of October 2009. The launch was held in Le Meridien Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The launching ceremony was attended by corporate members of the Society, which include Tetra Pak (M) Sdn. Bhd., Rottapharm Madaus, Fonterra Brands (M) Sdn Bhd., Nestle Products Sdn Bhd., J & J Medical, to name a few, medias from different languages, English, Chinese and Malay. OASKL had received full support from IOF in which the guests of honour from IOF include Miss Louisa Zhang, the Chair of CNS as well as Prof. Hans Peter Dimai, the representative of IOF.


The OASKL logo was unveiled during the launch. The object in red represents an osteoporotic patient with fracture vertebrae and hunched back deformity. The one in green represents a young girl who is offering help and support. Both are linked with the blue walking stick, which represents OASKL.

In the welcoming speech and the presentation lecture, Dr. Lee Joon Kiong, the President of OASKL, highlighted the objectives of forming OASKL in promoting bone health awareness among Malaysian, a neglected problem in Malaysia. The process of forming the Society, the future direction and plans of OASKL were also mentioned. OASKL is launching the program called “Healthy Bone For Life” which consists of a longitudinal program to promote healthy bone for all. This consists of Healthy Bone for pregnant lady, children, adolescence, adult and elderly. OASKL hopes to introduce this program to the Ministry of Health for a better bone health and care for all Malaysians.
